LUPITA PULPO is the name of the production house of the works by Ayara Hernández Holz, Felix Marchand and invited colleagues.
The name Lupita Pulpo was invented in Arnhem, where Felix and Ayara met and studied at the school EDDC. When the government of The Netherlands decided to reject the student visa of Ayara, the school decided nevertheless that she could stay, but she had to come up with a fake name. That afternoon, the technical director of the school, Nol Tilanus, a rough man with a sailor soul, call Ayara to his office and said to her: “You have 5 minutes to come up with a name” Ayara thought about her cat and her Mexican roots and came up with the most common name she could think of: Lupita. Nol looked at her, probably went through the only Spanish words he had in his vocabulary and said: Pulpo… Lupita Pulpo!

El nombre Lupita Pulpo surgió en Arnhem donde Ayara y Felix se conocieron estudiando en la escuela EDDC. Cuando el gobierno holandés le negó la visa de estudiante a Ayara, la escuela le ofreció quedarse usando un nombre falso. Esa misma tarde el director técnico de la escuela, Nol Tilanus, un hombre tosco, con espíritu de marinero; llamó a Ayara a su oficina y le dijo que tenía 5 minutos para inventarte un nuevo nombre. Ayara pensó en sus raíces mexicanas, en su gata y se le ocurrió el nombre mexicano más popular que pudo imaginar en ese momento: Lupita. Nol, la miro, y se quedó pensado en maríscos , probablemente las únicas palabras que sabía en español y dijo: Pulpo… Lupita Pulpo!

Ayara Hernández Holz is a performer and choreographer based in Berlin and Montevideo.
She was born in Mexico as a consequence of the dictatorship in Uruguay, she lived in Mexico till it was over, in 1987 their parents decide to go back to live in Montevideo.
She studied contemporary dance, with the group CONTRADANZA, literature and theatre in Uruguay , at EDDC (European Dance Development Centre) in the Netherlands. In 2009 she finished her MA in Contemporary Arts Practice & Dissemination/ MACAPD in “L’animal a l’esquena” in Spain. (in collaboration with the University of Girona, Dargtinton College of Arts and MASKA institute).
Since 2002 she creates her own works in collaboration with Felix Marchand and invited colleagues in Montevideo and Berlin.
Next to her own work she has been collaborating in works of Cris Blanco (Barcelona), Diego Gil, Ji Hyun Young (Amsterdam), Tommi Zeuggin & Hyoung-Min Kim, Irina Müller, Begüm Erciyas, Angela Shubot/ TWO FISH, Zufit Simon (Berlin) Liisa Pentii (Helsinki),Florencia Varela, Florencia Martinelli, Tamara Cubas, Carolina Silveira (Montevideo) and Eszter Gal (Budapest) among others. In 2010 she was invited to participated in the project “the village” curated by Peter Stammer.
She has been teaching in different centres and Institutes in Berlin and Montevideo such as SODA/ HZT (University of Berlin), PONDEROSA Tanzland Festival, Second meeting of RSD (Red Sudamericana de Danza), UDELAR / University of Uruguay, CCE (Spanish cultural centre), among others.

Ayara Hernández Holz nació en la ciudad de México como consecuencia del asilo político de sus padres a dicha ciudad. A los diez años, cuando terminó dictadura militar en Uruguay, sus padres decidieron volver a vivir en Montevideo.
Ayara estudió danza contemporánea con el grupo Contradanza en Uruguay, en EDDC (European Dance Development Centre) en Arnhem/ Países Bajos. Paralelamente estudió teatro y literatura en Uruguay. En el 2009 terminó su maestría en práctica de las artes contemporáneas y diseminación / MACAPD en L’animal a l’esquena en Gerona, España (en colaboración con Dargtinton College of Arts y MASKA Institute)
Desde 2002 trabaja en colaboración con Felix Marchand y artistas invitados en Berlín y en Montevideo.
Ayara ha trabajado como bailarina y colaboradora en proyectos: Cris Blanco (Barcelona), Diego Gil, Ji Hyun Young (Amsterdam), Tommi Zeuggin & Hyoung-Min Kim, Irina Müller, Begüm Erciyas, Angela Shubot/ TWO FISH, Zufit Simon (Berlin) Liisa Pentii (Helsinki),Florencia Varela, Florencia Martinelli, Tamara Cubas, Carolina Silveira (Montevideo) y Eszter Gal (Budapest), entre otros. En Diciembre de 2010 participó en el proyecto The Village bajo la curaduría de Peter Stammer en la ciudad de Berlín.
Ayara ha dictado clases y seminarios en varios centros e instituciones en Montevideo y Berlín: Entre ellos: el Segundo encuentro de la Red Sudamericana RSD, Plan piloto de danza Udelar, CCE /Centro Cultural de España (Mdeo), Maestría HZT/ SODA, Ponderosa Tanzland festival y Tanzfabrik (Berlín).

Felix Marchand studied at the Erika Klütz school (School for dance pedagogic) in Hamburg/Germany and at the European Dance Development Centre (EDDC) in Arnhem / Netherlands. In 2009 he finished his MA in Solo Dance Authorship (SoDA) at the Co-operative Dance Education Centre – Berlin.
Since 2002 she creates her own works in collaboration with Ayara Hernández and invited colleagues in Montevideo and Berlin.
Since 2002 he works as a freelance choreographer and performer in Berlin. He worked with Thomas Lehmen, Martin Nachbar, Jochen Roller, Sommer Ulrickson, Silke Z., WILHELM GROENER, Liisa Pentti, Ji-Hyun Youn, Diego Gil and Martin Clausen/ TWO FISH, Tommi Zeuggin & Hyoung-Min Kim, Irina Müller, Andreas Müller & Bo Wiget/ Beide Messies Begüm Erciyas, Clemont Layes and Christina Ciupke. He was invited to participated in the project “the village” curated by Peter Stammer in November- December 2010. He performed with Thomas Conway at the festival curated by Meg Stuart „Intimate strangers/Parcours“ in the Kaaitheater in Brussels.
In April 2009 he was commissioned to choreograph the Toronto dance theatre company.
Recently he played the main role in the movie “Los enemigos del dolor” (Enemies of pain) directed by Arauco Hernández Holz premiered in in 2014 in Locarno film festival.

Felix Marchand estudió en la escuela de Erika Klütz (Pedagogía en danza) en Hamburgo, en EDDC (European Dance Development Centre) en Arnhem/ Países Bajos. En 2009 terminó su maestría en SODA/ HZT (solo danza y autoría) en Berlín.
Desde 2002 trabaja en colaboración con Ayara Hernández Holz y artistas invitados en Berlín y en Montevideo.
En 2009 fue invitado como coreógrafo a montar la obra “Awareness etude for 6 Performers and an audience” en la compañía de danza teatro de la ciudad de Toronto/ TDT. En 2008 participo en el festival „Intimate strangers/Parcours“ in the Kaaitheater en Bruselas, curado por Meg Stuart presentado la obra “Considered: A Space Odyssey (9 – 44min.)” una colaboración con Thomas Conway.
Como performer ha colaborado con Thomas Lehmen, Martin Nachbar, Jochen Roller, Sommer Ulrickson, Silke Z., WILHELM GROENER, Liisa Pentti, Ji- Hyun Youn, Diego Gil, Martin Clausen/TWO FISH, Tommi Zeuggin & Hyoung-Min Kim, Andreas Müller & Bo Wiget/ Beide Messies, Irina Müller, Begüm Erciyas, Clement Layes yChristina Ciupke. En Diciembre de 2010 participó en el proyecto The Village bajo la curaduría de Peter Stammer en la ciudad de Berlín.
Felix es el protagonista de la película Los enemigos del dolor dirigida por Arauco Hernández, estrenada en 2014 en el festival internacional de Locarno, en Suiza.
